Essay Contests

The NPA Annual Psychopharmacology Update includes essay contests for residents and medical students. Participants have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and writing skills by addressing a relevant topic in psychiatry. The contest offers a chance to win cash prizes, with $1,000 for first place. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your expertise and contribute to important discussions in the field of mental health.

 

WILLIAM G. STONE MEDICAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY CONTEST:

The William G. Stone Medical Student Scholarship will award $1,000 to the winner. This opportunity is open to second-, third-, and fourth-year medical students in Nevada who have an interest in psychiatry.

 

Student Essay Prompt: Digital Psychiatry: The rise of AI driven diagnosis and app-based interventions; benefits, risks, and future directions.

 

LESLEY R. DICKSON RESIDENT SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY CONTEST:

The Fourth Annual Lesley R. Dickson Resident Scholarship offers a $1,000 award to the winner, supporting their continued education.

 

Resident Essay Prompt: Gun Violence and Media Exposure: Psychological consequences and the role of psychiatry in prevention strategies.

 

Criteria: Entries must be 500 words or less, using 12-point font and double-spacing. Winners will be announced in February based on clarity, originality, and creativity, and scholarships will be awarded at the Annual NPA Business Meeting on February 13, 2026, at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.

 

How will the entries be judged?

A panel of experts in psychiatry will review all submissions, and winners will be selected based on their ability to clearly communicate key findings and contribute valuable insights to the field.
